Eagle data management recognized as “Best in Class” data management system

Paul McInnis, Director of Product Strategy, Data Management, Eagle Investment Systems

cebCEB TowerGroup analysts recently completed a data management technology analysis, surveying the top vendors in the industry, in which Eagle was recognized as “Best in Class” for “Product Scope” and “Data Integration Tools”.

Across the two recognitions, the report cited the following specific features:

  • our comprehensive and proven data model
  • our exceptional validation and enrichment capabilities
  • our provision of workflow processes
  • our reference data utility with full audit lifecycle
  • provision of data lineage
  • our extensive library of vendor feeds
  • our ecosystem integration with risk and analytic engines, such as FINCAD F3 financial framework and MathWorks MATLAB
  • our support for all data formats as APIs

The report points towards the increasing importance of data management to investment companies and points to an acceleration in investment in data management projects. Indeed, it forecasts that global data management technology spend will increase by 44% over the next five years. The fastest growing region is identified as Asia Pacific where spend on data management technology is expected to increase by 77%.

This will be fuelled in no small part by emerging technologies and trends, with those having the greatest potential to increase ROI the most likely to be adopted. The report cites eight specific emerging technologies in data management; given our commitment to innovation, it is gratifying to see that we have already made significant headway and developed a significant presence in each area. I’ve briefly outlined these below.

Parameterization – This is the development of workflow processes from data policies through to data implementations and is something we work very closely with our clients on.

Data governance – My colleague Marc Firenze wrote an excellent article on how we approach data governance for Wall Street and Technology a few months back which is worth reading.

Open standards – Eagle has developed a canonical model called EagleML which helps firms publish quality data to surrounding applications. This simplifies integration, eliminates custom SQL code and allows users to leverage XML standards they may already be using in their firm.

Integrated business intelligence tools – Eagle leverages its data and meta data through a comprehensive and flexible reporting repository.  Eagle remains tool agnostic meaning any third party tools can access this data mart. This includes MicroStrategy, a leading worldwide provider of business intelligence (BI) software.

Data management utilities – Eagle’s ability to integrate, aggregate, validate and enrich multiple sources of data across one comprehensive investment data platform is unmatched in the industry. It continues to go from strength to strength with our Reference Data Center.

Managed services deployment – We offer a flexible approach to deployment to best meet the demands of the business. Over the last five years, substantially all of our solutions were delivered over Eagle ACCESSSM, our secure private cloud and that trend continues today.  Unlike some of our competitors, our technology is built using intelligent open architecture designed specifically for the cloud (see more on this in my colleague Mal Cullen’s article on FTF News). It’s also very secure and in 2011 we adopted the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) security controls.

Mobility – Eagle ACCESSSM enables data to be accessed anywhere at any time and can be accessed on mobile devices. We also offer access to MicroStrategy’s mobile apps with write-back tools to enable mobile reporting and notifications on mobile devices.

Interactive visualizations – We offer a range of flexible and dynamic reporting and visualization tools and have formed alliances with Vermillion, an excellent provider of client reporting software, as well as MicroStrategy, to provide clients access to the best solutions.

At Eagle, our aim is to help companies grow their assets efficiently through best in class technology.  We’re pleased this has been recognized by this industry research and that we are on track to meet the future needs of our clients.
